10-11-76 The Shrine , in LA . I think it was 6 bucks (?).
Pretty average show, from my vantage point now . A good first show , as they played lots of "songs" . I was struck right away how many songs I didn't know !
Where was "Casey Jones", "Truckin',""Sugar Mag.",US Blues"..? Truly this was a different band !
"Ramble on Rose", and "Ten. Jed", were great ( I knew E72 ), and a real fine Scarlet . The "Dancin'>Wharf Rat>Dancin'" was the first exposure to what was REAL special to the Dead . The combo of this show, and the very different show at the Swing (2-26-77) hooked me .

I love 2/26/77. What did you think of Terrapin? Or was everything just seeming new?

Our response was "...huh?" . And then , the same for the "Estimated", we sensed these were something , but more like " what was that big song Jerry opened with"? It is a pretty amazing show, ( Playing>Wheel>Playing, Help>Slip>Frank)
But as newbie kids, it was all pretty perplexing . But the combo of the relatively straight Shrine show, and this more introspective one , made us wonder, "What is the next show going to be like ?". (the monster Forum show in June )!.

I missed the 2/26/77 show, but I got to do huh? on 6/4. I also went to the Winterland shows the following week, and by the end, the huh? had worn off. Estimated and Terrapin just about every night. :) I gotta say that hearing Terrapin live for the first time was one of the great physical experiences of my life.

I have to agree. That can be just amazing live. I get the sense that not everyone here loves Terrapin (gosh, how did I get THAT idea?!?), but it really works for me. It can give me the chills on tape, too.
